About two months ago, I wrote the first part of this series. Rising to Level 1, and gaining the status of PC, required finishing a written work. Congratulations on making it that far.
Reaching Level 2 is going to require some experience points. A semi-coherent shitty story that nobody wants to read just isn't going to cut it. You're going to have to kick some kobolds in the nuts and either revise that story you wrote until it's something that people want to lay down a few gold pieces to read, or you're going to have to start from scratch, taking the lessons you've learned from your first lackluster effort, and writing something that you feel confident about publishing.
Actually, come to think of it, confidence isn't enough. A common pitfall among self-published authors is to think that they deserve something for having risen to Level 1. They'll hit the publish button on that piece of shit they spent months crapping out like their muse was an entire wheel of cheese.
Level 2 requires a certain level of vindication. A couple of people are actually buying your book. Some are even leaving nice reviews. You're still a long way from being able to quit your day job to do this full time. In fact, you still don't know if that day will ever come. But you've proven to yourself that there are, in fact, some people out there who have read your shit and regretted neither the money nor time they spent on it.
So by day you'll still be washing dishes in the tavern, or sucking orc dick, or whatever it is you do to pay the bills. But by night you'll be dipping your quill and scribbling away furiously on your next masterpiece.
How badly do you want to quit that day job and support yourself on your writing alone? Your talents aren't appreciated here. You get no respect. No appreciation. Frustration and orc semen fester in your gut until you think you might snap.
Hang in there, adventurer. You didn't come this far only to give up now. There are many miles yet to travel, and many foes to vanquish. You could struggle on alone, or you could form a party. We'll talk more about that in Level 3.
Need a little self-confidence boost? Check out the shit I'm having success with.
