Warlock 5e

Chains of Carceri 5e

November 24, 2022

Chains of Carceri is one of those invocations that make me adore warlocks. It's a big, flashy, at will effect that cements the fantasy warlocks are asking for. It takes a powerful spell, makes it at will, but has a trade off of working only against specific creatures you’d expect warlocks to excel against.

Book of Ancient Secrets 5e

November 24, 2022

If you picked Pact of the Tome but still want a familiar, Book of Ancient Secrets can get you one, plus another invocation at will spell like Speak with Animals or Detect Magic. Book of Ancient Secrets is one of the biggest reasons to take Pact of the Tome.

Bond of the Talisman 5e

November 23, 2022

Bond of the Talisman is THE reason to take Pact of the Talisman, and while not game shatteringly powerful, is an absolute delight to use.

Bewitching Whispers 5e

November 23, 2022

Bewitching Whispers takes the Compulsion spell, a spell that already is a fairly niche bard option that is difficult to regularly use, and says you have the privilege to use a 5TH LEVEL spell slot on this 4TH LEVEL spell once per long rest.

Beguiling Influence 5e

November 23, 2022

Beguiling Influence is just two skill proficiencies on characters likely with enough Charisma skill proficiencies. You’re not going to often need both, and you probably already have one. This leaves it as an invocation not really for anyone.

Beast Speech 5e

November 23, 2022

Beast Speech isn’t going to be particularly powerful. Druid’s can already basically get this invocation if they’ve got time to ritual cast Speak with Animals, and with the Book of Ancient Secrets invocation, you can get access to Speak with Animals as a ritual.

Aspect of the Moon 5e

November 23, 2022

When the only two uses for Aspect of the Moon are make a busted, game warping build that likely will get addressed by the DM or being a completely useless mechanic offering you more time to whittle, I just can’t justify it existing.

Ascendant Step 5e

November 23, 2022

Ascendant Step, to me, is one of the most iconic looks a warlock can get. It's the Exorcism floating body horror scene, or it's the quiet contemplative fey monk chilling with their elder fey patron in a glade. Levitation is a huge part of the fantasy of these character archetypes. Unfortunately, Ascendant Step comes just a bit too late for me to really love it.

Armor of Shadows 5e

November 23, 2022

In an ideal world, Armor of Shadows would be some cool new way for warlocks to have the 13+Dex AC in addition to getting a tool to interact with the world in some nifty ways. As is, it's a +1 AC for an invocation. And that’s not worth it.

Agonizing Blast 5e

November 23, 2022

Agonizing Blast isn’t complicated, but it is powerful. It, on its own, puts warlocks on the map as damage dealers at a lot of tables, comparable to ranged multi-attack fighters while only needing to dedicate a cantrip and an invocation to get there.
