Artificer 5e

Enhanced Arcane Focus 5e

May 3, 2023

Enhanced Arcane Focus 5e

Item: A rod, staff or wand (requires attunement)

While holding this item, a creature gains +1 bonus to spell attack rolls. In addition, the creature ignores half cover when making a spell attack.

The bonus increases to +2 when you reach 10th level in this class.

Review by Prince Phantom

An often underused aspect of Artificer Infusions is the ability to hand them off to another party member. I admit, I am also an offender, as it really feels like you as the Artificer need these infusions to stay relevant and powerful. If there was ever an infusion that I would almost always give to a friend however,  it would be this one.

Specifically, I’m interested in giving this to the party Warlock, at least until they get a better magic item that does a similar effect. Boosting the Warlock’s accuracy with Eldritch Blast is a big increase to their overall DPR, helping the entire team in the process. The note about ignoring half cover is situationally useful, but you’ll be thankful for basically +2 to hit when it does come up. Note that this does nothing about 3/4 cover, so be careful about your positioning.

I specifically like this on Warlocks because they are really the only class who are making consistent spell attack rolls, and a lot of them at that. I suppose this would also be good on a weird Scorching Ray build if you happen to have one of those in your party, but otherwise this is pretty much just for the Warlocks. Note that this strangely doesn’t bump the damage roll, which is very strange and different from the Enhanced Weapon infusion. In terms of using this infusion yourself, we really don’t have the spells or abilities to make the best use of this, and you’ll find other infusions have a much bigger impact on your character.

Final Rating if you keep it yourself: 2/5

Final Rating if you give it to the Warlock: 4/5
