Repeating Shot 5e

Item: A simple or martial weapon with the ammunition property (requires attunement)

This magic weapon grants a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it when it's used to make a ranged attack, and it ignores the loading property if it has it.

If you load no ammunition in the weapon, it produces its own, automatically creating one piece of magic ammunition when you make a ranged attack with it. The ammunition created by the weapon vanishes the instant after it hits or misses a target.

Review by Prince Phantom

Have you ever wanted to wield a hand crossbow and shield at the same time without playing as a Thri-Kreen? Here’s how you do it! This gives a weapon +1 and removes every aspect of the ammunition and loading properties, even letting the weapon produce magical ammunition of its own when you go to fire it. This is specifically designed for crossbows and firearms, but the removal of the ammunition property pairs best with a one handed ranged weapon like a hand crossbow or pistol so your other hand is free to hold a shield or anything else you want.

If you plan to use a two handed ranged weapon like a longbow or rifle, you’ll still want this if your subclass is getting extra attack, as the loading property prevents more than one attack from the same weapon in a single turn. If you don’t get extra attack, Enhanced Weapon will serve you better as it gives the same +1 bonus but doesn’t require attunement and scales at level 10.

You’ll see this infusion on a lot of optimized Battlemaster builds wielding a hand crossbow as the ability to hold a shield (which could potentially be enhanced by other infusions) is generally better than rolling a slightly higher damage die. Not needing to track your ammunition is something that most tables already do anyways, but for the tables that don’t it’s a nice quality of life improvement. Overall, this is a solid infusion for the builds that want it, and serves those builds very well all the way to level 20.

Final Rating: 5/5 (for the builds that want it)
