Elemental Gem 5e

July 20, 2023

Elemental Gem 5e

Wondrous Item, uncommon

This gem contains a mote of elemental energy. When you use an action to break the gem, an elemental is summoned as if you had cast the Conjure Elemental spell, and the gem's magic is lost. The type of gem determines the elemental summoned by the spell.

I’m a sucker for a special consumable, and Elemental Gem certainly fits the bill. You get a 5th-level spell bundled in a tiny little gem package.

  • There are four gem types you can get; sapphires, diamonds, corundum, or emeralds, each of which summons one of the four primary elementals in place of having your DM determine what’s summoned.

  • When a magic item casts a spell like this there are a few rules to keep in mind.

    • It’s always cast at its lowest possible level

    • It doesn’t require any components

    • You still are casting the spell, and still have to maintain concentration on it

  • Unlike a Spell Scroll, anyone can use an Elemental Gem!

  • Breaking concentration on a Conjure Elemental can be disastrous, potentially causing the summoned elemental to go rogue and attack you and your friends!
