Potion of Speed 5e

January 23, 2024

Potion of Speed 5e

Potion, very rare

When you drink this potion, you gain the effect of the Haste spell for 1 minute (no concentration required). The potion's yellow fluid is streaked with black and swirls on its own.

Commentary by Sam West, Twitter: @CrierKobold

Haste without any of the risk is crazy. Giving a character a free extra action, even in a limited scope, can be a massive advantage. Stock up on these if you want your party to have an advantage against top-tier enemies, as there aren’t that many ways to mitigate a potion like this!

  • Haste grants a creature the following:

    • +2 AC

    • Their speed is doubled

    • Advantage on Dexterity saving throws

    • An additional action that can be used to do the following only:

      • Make one attack roll

      • Dash

      • Disengage

      • Hide

      • Use an Object

  • The penalty still will apply when the potion effect ends after 1 minute, so make sure you finish your fight in ten rounds!

  • Doubling a creature’s speed includes any speeds it has; Haste affects swim, walking, burrow, and flight

  • Potion effects persist through unconsciousness; if you’re knocked out during a fight, Haste will still be active if you regain consciousness within the minute duration
