Ring of Telekinesis 5e

January 25, 2024

Ring of Telekinesis 5e

Ring, very rare (requires attunement)

While wearing this ring, you can cast the Telekinesis spell at will, but you can target only objects that aren't being worn or carried.

Commentary by Sam West, Twitter: @CrierKobold

I adore this stupid little ring. Telekinesis is a blast to play with, and this gives it to you at will, but with the stipulation that you can’t move creatures. There is still plenty of fun to be had here, even if you can’t launch creatures into space with your mind!

  • Telekinesis still requires you concentrate on it when cast through the ring.

  • You can move objects that weigh up to 1,000 pounds with Telekinesis and do so automatically if the item isn’t being worn or carried.

  • You can move it 30 feet at a time while it is within 60 feet.

  • You can move objects with creatures on them should the total weight not exceed the 1,000-pound limit.

  • The contested check you make uses your spellcasting ability modifier; because the Ring doesn’t specify what to use, you can choose any spellcasting ability modifier you have from your classes.

  • No skill is used for these ability checks; neither party typically adds their proficiency bonus to the check.

  • If you don’t have a spellcasting ability modifier, such as if you’re playing a rogue, you don’t add anything to the check.
