Wand of Polymorph 5e

January 31, 2024

Wand of Polymorph 5e

Wand, very rare (requires attunement by a Spellcaster)

This wand has 7 charges. While holding it, you can use an action to expend 1 of its charges to cast the Polymorph spell (save DC 15) from it.

The wand regains 1d6 + 1 expended charges daily at dawn. If you expend the wand's last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the wand crumbles into ashes and is destroyed.

Commentary by Sam West, Twitter: @CrierKobold

Polymorph is the kind of spell that wildly warps how the game can be played. Against enemies, it reduces their threat down to that of a tiny squirrel on a single failed save. On allies, it can transform them into massive bags of hit points that thrash enemies with dinosaur jaws!

  • Generally, you’ll want to bank one charge in it so as to not risk losing such a prized weapon.

  • The spell always uses the DC 15 save, even if your spell save DC is higher.

  • Polymorph cast from the spell always is at 4th level.

  • You still need to maintain concentration on Polymorph when cast using this item.
